TPACK Quest

Throughout our course we earned badges for the completion of weekly tasks and activities. A variety of new resources were presented to us in a unique and inspiring manner. It was a new style of learning for me and one that I think will work wonderfully in classrooms for all.

The class was broken into three different badges, the Cup of Wisdom Badge, the order of TPACK Badge and the Genius Hour Badge, which encompass our course grade.

The Cup of Wisdom is earned through the completion of weekly online modules that facilitate the learning of Technological, Pedagogical and Content Knowledge (TPACK). Within this badge there are six badges to complete which include Gamification, Digitial ID, Digizen, PBL, PJBL,and Digital Teacher.

One of the badges in the Cup of Wisdom category that I enjoyed and learned a lot about is the Gamification Badge.
Through this badge I was able to develop an understanding of game mechanics that can be used to facilitate learning in educational contexts. As technology becomes more prominent in the lives of children, how teachers teach content in the classroom to students must reflect what the students know. Incorporating technology and a gaming aspect into lessons will engage students and enable them to grasp concepts and ideas in a way that is fun and innovative to them. Incorporating gaming in learning is a good strategy to mask learning through work with learning through fun and games.

The Professional order of TPACK is awarded based on your actions throughout the course that demonstrate the development of a professional demeanor and identity, including your ability to collaborate with your Professional Learning Network. This section incorporated three badges which were Collaborator, Dependability, and Professionalism.

A badge in this section that I found beneficial was the professionalism badge. This badge was awarded for the completions of three in-class peer evaluation activities (Movie Trailer, TED Talk, Genius Hour Digital Portfolio) and the demonstration of ongoing Twitter participation throughout the course. I found that by viewing what other classmates did aided me in making my own work better and allowed me to learn and explore my peers interests. I learned a lot of new information through my classmates projects, where many ideas I can later incorporate into my own classroom.

The badge that I felt that most aided me in my growth was the Genius Hour Badge. The Genius Hour Badge is acquired by proposing, researching, and sharing a Genius Hour Project using a blog-based Digital Portfolio. Not only was I able to delve into some of my passions, learn and share them, I was able to present them in a a manner that I was once unable to do before this course. Genius Hour allowed me to acquire a vast amount of knowledge that I learned throughout the course and apply them to the finalized project. Many resources that were used throughout this badge included Powtoon, Google Slides, and iMovie.  This badge perhaps was the most rewarding for a lot of hard work went into this badge. A lot of information was taken away throughout the process of completing this badge, which I would love to include in my future classroom!
